A certificate presentation ceremony to mark the end of the “3rd Leadership Basic Course for Newly Elected Supervisors of the Brownie Association 2011” organised by the Uniformed Association Section of Co-Curricular Education Department, Ministry of Education (MoE) was held yesterday.

The guest of honour who distributed the certificates was the Director of Administration and Services at the MoE, Pengiran Shahminan bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Salleh. The event was enlivened by performances.

The three-day programme aimed to educate on scouting matters in line with the Girl Guides Scheme; to understand roles and responsibilities as leaders and create interaction; and to share ideas and experiences on handicrafts and games within the schools and groups.

“It is hoped participants will be able to organise and conduct well-ordered activities within their groups, and be a positive thinker to create responsible citizens among the Brownies,” said the event chairperson, Awg Jalil bin Pengarah Haji Kapitan, Head of Uniformed Association Section of Co-curricular Education Department.

A representative of the participants, Mufidah binti Haji Kasim, said the most interesting part of the programme was designing games and songs within a limited time frame. She suggested that the programme should be extended to create more learning opportunities, and that an Extra-Curricular Officer should be invited to oversee their activities to provide immediate feedback.

The programme was conducted from April 15-17 in the Dewan Legar, Department of Co-Curricular Education, and participated by 31 private and public primary school teachers.
